When Katie Lightfoot’s aunt and uncle open the Honeybee Bakery in Savannah, she enthusiastically agrees to join them. But then she notices Aunt Lucy is adding mysterious herbs to her recipes. Turns out these herbal enhancements aren’t just tasty – Lucy is a witch and her recipes are actually spells. With the help of handsome journalist Steve Dawes and charming firefighter Declan McCarthy, Katie, Aunt Lucy and the ladies of the Spellbook Club will stir up some toil and trouble to track down killers and spread a little magic in the world.
My review: When Katie moves to Savannah to help her aunt and uncle open Honeybee Bakery, she begins to get settled in her new home. Katie has always enjoyed baking and tending to her Garden, and she is looking forward to trying out her recipes at Honeybee Bakery. As she gets to know Aunt Lucy’s friends, she realizes that they are part of a “Spellbook Club”. The ladies teach Katie some things about witchcraft and spells as they all prepare to open the new Bakery. One day a little dog shows up at Katie’s home, and he is such a cute addition to this story!
I loved the descriptions of the recipes that Katie and her Aunt are making for the Bakery,…( since I love sweets..) everything sounded so good! And, I also enjoyed the romance story-line between Katie and Steve, ~ and Katie and Declan as she gets to know both of these men. With well-developed characters and a mystery that had me guessing until the end, I really enjoyed this story!
One of my favorite quotes in the book is….Know what? I kind of liked it. Andrew had been a getcher-own-door kind of guy……
Brownies and Broomsticks is the first book in the Magical Bakery Mysteries, and the 4th book will be released in July, 2014! I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series!
