Review: Their First Noel by Annie Jones

I enjoy reading Christmas stories in the Summertime. It helps me to “think cooler”!

Their First NoelAbout this book:

A spunky Southern baker, Corrie Bennington has her heart set on winning a gingerbread house contest in  Vermont. Her masterpiece: a replica of the old inn where her estranged parents met. And where Corrie hopes to  find the father she’s never known. But when she arrives in Mt. Piney, Vermont, the inn is closed—and being  restored. Handsome carpenter Andy McFarland offers to help Corrie find her dad and build her candy house. But  Andy’s matchmaking little sister has her own sweet holiday wish—helping Andy and Corrie find a little romance this Christmas.

My thoughts:

When Corrie stopped at the Inn where her parents met, ( many years ago ) she meets Andy and his sister who welcome her and they are anxious to help her find her Dad.  Corrie is planning on entering a Gingerbread Contest, and as she puts her Gingerbread House together,  Andy and his Sister enjoy helping her with it!   With the cute things that happen to Corrie, ( trouble seems to follow her ) —  This book really gets me in the Holiday spirit!

Currently reading “North to Alaska” by Debbie Macomber

2014-02-25---North-to-Alaska-(1)-reissueDebbie Macomber is my favorite romance author. Her books always take me on a romantic adventure!  She has many series of books including the Cedar Cove series, the Blossom Street series, Heart of Texas series, and her newest series called Rose Harbor.  One of the first books that I read by Debbie Macomber was one of the books from her Angel series. Her Angel series feature 3 Angels called Shirley, Goodness and Mercy.  These 3 Angels get into mischief ( sometimes ) but they are very helpful in sharing their wisdom with others!

I’m currently reading “North to Alaska” by Debbie Macomber.  This book features two previously issued stories, That Wintry Feeling (1984)  and  Borrowed Dreams (1985).

That Wintry Feeling: She’s not in Kansas anymore! Cathy Thompson was betrayed by the man she’d loved, a betrayal that sent her north, to a new teaching job and a brand-new life. Now she’s fallen in love with the grandeur of Alaska—and with a bush pilot named Grady Jones, who has custody of his young daughter, Angela. He offers Cathy a marriage of convenience, a proposal that, for him, isn’t about love. But being together, being a family, helps Cathy forget her past. And it helps Grady find a future he hadn’t expected!  – from www.debbiemacomber.com

Borrowed Dreams: Carly Grieves left Seattle for Anchorage because she was looking for a more adventurous life. She’s accepted a job with a shipping company—a job that comes with plenty of challenges. Including pilot Brand St. Clair… Despite her best intentions, she’s falling in love with him. But Brand’s a widower and Carly’s afraid he’s simply looking for a replacement wife. She’s afraid to hope that he’s fallen in love with her, too….- from  www.debbiemacomber.com

She quickly knits herself into the fiber of this seaside town, even wanting to purchase a house, Izzy’s house, even though she has never set foot inside. The realtor has already set up an Open House and Julie receives a mysterious call from a man asking her to meet him before the Open House starts. But when she arrives he is nowhere in sight. Deciding to take a quick look around the property Julia finds more the a beautiful view. She finds a dead body in the backyard. Her name and phone number are found on the body and she becomes the police’s prime suspect.

Things take a drastic turn as secrets kept for years are revealed and old friends are linked to both Julia and the dead man. The Seaside Knitters must work to unravel the real reason Julia Ainsley has come to their town—and the tangled and troubled ties from the past that bind friends and townsfolk together.

Final_cover-210 I recently received “Cloche and Dagger” by Jenn McKinlay, and I’m looking forward to reading it!  This book is the first book in her “Hat Shop” series.   I have read several of the books in her “Cupcake Series” and really enjoyed them!

Cloche and Dagger – A Hat Shop Mystery (Book 1)  Publisher – Berkley, August 2013

Not only is Scarlett Parker’s love life in the loo—as her British cousin Vivian Tremont would say—it’s also gone viral with an embarrassing video. So when Viv suggests Scarlett leave Florida to lay low in London, she hops on the next plane across the pond. Viv is the proprietor of Mims’s Whims, a ladies’ hat shop on Portobello Road bequeathed to both cousins by their beloved grandmother, and she wants Scarlett to finally join her in the millinery business.

But a few surprises await Scarlett in London. First, she is met at the airport not by Viv, but by her handsome business manager, Harrison Wentworth. Second, Viv—who has some whims of her own—seems to be missing. No one is too concerned about the unpredictable Viv until one of her posh clients is found dead wearing the cloche hat Viv made for her—and nothing else. Is Scarlett’s cousin in trouble? Or is she in hiding?

Review: Brownies and Broomsticks by Bailey Cates

brownies_broomsticksWhen Katie Lightfoot’s aunt and uncle open the Honeybee Bakery in Savannah, she enthusiastically agrees to join them. But then she notices Aunt Lucy is adding mysterious herbs to her recipes. Turns out these herbal enhancements aren’t just tasty –  Lucy is a witch and her recipes are actually spells. With the help of handsome journalist Steve Dawes and charming firefighter Declan McCarthy, Katie, Aunt Lucy and the ladies of the Spellbook Club will stir up some toil and trouble to track down killers and spread a little magic in the world.

From: http://cricketmcrae.com/

My review:   When Katie moves to Savannah to help her aunt and uncle open Honeybee Bakery, she begins to get settled in her new home.  Katie has always enjoyed baking and tending to her Garden, and she is looking forward to trying out her recipes at Honeybee Bakery.  As she gets to know Aunt Lucy’s friends, she realizes that they are part of a “Spellbook Club”. The ladies teach Katie some things about witchcraft and spells as they all prepare to open the new Bakery.  One day a little dog shows up at Katie’s home, and he is such a cute addition to this story!

I loved the descriptions of the recipes that Katie and her Aunt are making for the Bakery,…( since I love sweets..) everything sounded so good!  And, I also enjoyed the romance story-line between Katie and Steve, ~ and Katie and Declan as she gets to know both of these men.  With well-developed characters and a mystery that had me guessing until the end, I really enjoyed this story!

One of my favorite quotes in the book is….Know what?  I kind of liked it.  Andrew had been a getcher-own-door kind of guy……

Brownies and Broomsticks is the first book in the Magical Bakery Mysteries, and the 4th book will be released in July, 2014!   I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series!
