Review: “Silver Linings” by Debbie Macomber

Silver Linings by Debbie MacomberSilver Linings by Debbie Macomber

August 11th 2015

Rose Harbor #4

About the Book:

Set in Cedar Cove’s charming Rose Harbor Inn, Debbie Macomber’s captivating new novel follows innkeeper Jo Marie and two new guests as they seek healing and comfort, revealing that every cloud has a silver lining, even when it seems difficult to find.

Since opening the Rose Harbor Inn, Jo Marie Rose has met fascinating people from all walks of life, but none have piqued her interest quite like handyman Mark Taylor. Jo Marie and Mark are good friends—and are becoming something more—yet he still won’t reveal anything about his past. When Mark tells her that he’s moving out of town, Jo Marie is baffled. Just when she is starting to open herself up again to love, she feels once more that she is losing the man she cares about. As she grapples with Mark’s decision and tries to convince him to stay, she welcomes two visitors also seeking their own answers.

My thoughts:   I’m a big fan of Debbie Macombers books and this series is one of my favorites!   Jo Marie enjoys meeting new guests and making new friends that stay at her Inn.  She has quickly become friends with her handyman named Mark.  When Mark announces that he is moving, she is suprised and disappointed.

While Jo Marie is wondering where Mark is moving to – she continues to get to know the guests staying at her Inn. She enjoys being a innkeeper and she hopes that her Inn can help have healing powers to all that stay there.

Two of her guests ( Katie and Coco ) are staying at her Inn while attending the activities at their 10 year High School Reunion.  Katie and Coco are anxious to attend the Reunion and to find some closure from some things that happened during their High School years.   Without giving too much of the story away…this is a touching story that makes me anxiously awaiting the next book in the Rose Harbor series!

Review: A Potion to Die For by Heather Blake

I really enjoy books by Heather Blake, she also writes books as Heather Webber.  Her books have interesting characters and make me smile!

“A Potion to Die For” is the first book in her “Magic Potion” series – you can read more about her books on her website.

Review - A Potion to Die For by Heather Blake

More about the book:

As the owner of the Little Shop of Potions, a magic potion shop specializing in love potions, Carly Bell Hartwell finds her product more in demand than ever. A local soothsayer has predicted that a couple in town will soon divorce—and now it seems every married person in Hitching Post, Alabama, wants a little extra matrimonial magic to make sure they stay hitched.

But when Carly finds a dead man in her shop, clutching one of her potion bottles, she goes from most popular potion person to public enemy number one. In no time the murder investigation becomes a witch hunt—literally! Now Carly is going to need to brew up some serious sleuthing skills to clear her name and find the real killer—before the whole town becomes convinced her potions really are to die for!

More about the Author:

Heather Blake (aka Heather Webber) is the author of more than twenty novels and has been twice nominated for an Agatha Award. She’s a total homebody who loves to be close to her family, read, watch reality TV (especially cooking competition shows), drink too much coffee, crochet, bake (mostly cookies), and occasionally leave the house to travel to the beautiful mountains in the northeast. Heather grew up in a suburb of Boston, but currently she lives in the Cincinnati area with her family and is hard at work on her next book.

My Review:

I like the small town in this story, its called “Hitching Post”. The town has lots of interesting stores and characters.   When someone is found dead in the back of Carly’s store..the Police have to close her store to look for clues.  Meanwhile, Carly sets off to find who ( and why ) he was killed.  Did someone use one of her Magic Potions to kill him?  Thats one of the questions she needs answered.

One of my favorite characters in this story is Carly’s cousin Delia.  They dont always get along..but they are family..and they help each other.  There is also a romance in this book, between Carly and her on again/off again boyfriend Dylan.  ( I hope their romance story continues in the next book in this series! ) **

One of my favorite quotes from the book ~

White tendrils swirled into the air, then dissipated – a feature of the Leilara that I’d never tire of watching.

If you love cozy mysteries ( with a touch of magic ) be sure and pick up this book!

My friend Angela, at Griperang’s Bookmarks also reviewed this book, you can see her review here!

Review: Their First Noel by Annie Jones

I enjoy reading Christmas stories in the Summertime. It helps me to “think cooler”!

Their First NoelAbout this book:

A spunky Southern baker, Corrie Bennington has her heart set on winning a gingerbread house contest in  Vermont. Her masterpiece: a replica of the old inn where her estranged parents met. And where Corrie hopes to  find the father she’s never known. But when she arrives in Mt. Piney, Vermont, the inn is closed—and being  restored. Handsome carpenter Andy McFarland offers to help Corrie find her dad and build her candy house. But  Andy’s matchmaking little sister has her own sweet holiday wish—helping Andy and Corrie find a little romance this Christmas.

My thoughts:

When Corrie stopped at the Inn where her parents met, ( many years ago ) she meets Andy and his sister who welcome her and they are anxious to help her find her Dad.  Corrie is planning on entering a Gingerbread Contest, and as she puts her Gingerbread House together,  Andy and his Sister enjoy helping her with it!   With the cute things that happen to Corrie, ( trouble seems to follow her ) —  This book really gets me in the Holiday spirit!
