Series Spotlight – Cupcake Bakery Mysteries by Jenn McKinlay

The Cupcake Bakery Mystery series by Jenn McKinlay is one of my favorite cozy series.

There are 8 books in this series and the 9th book – Caramel Crush will be released April 4th, 2017.   I really like the characters in this series, Melanie, Angie and Tate.  Melanie and Angie open a cupcake bakery and get help from their good friend Tate.  The dialogue is witty and I keep turning the pages to find out what happens next!

Book Spotlight – Cloche and Dagger by Jenn McKinlay

Final_cover-210 I recently received “Cloche and Dagger” by Jenn McKinlay, and I’m looking forward to reading it!  This book is the first book in her “Hat Shop” series.   I have read several of the books in her “Cupcake Series” and really enjoyed them!

Cloche and Dagger – A Hat Shop Mystery (Book 1)  Publisher – Berkley, August 2013

Not only is Scarlett Parker’s love life in the loo—as her British cousin Vivian Tremont would say—it’s also gone viral with an embarrassing video. So when Viv suggests Scarlett leave Florida to lay low in London, she hops on the next plane across the pond. Viv is the proprietor of Mims’s Whims, a ladies’ hat shop on Portobello Road bequeathed to both cousins by their beloved grandmother, and she wants Scarlett to finally join her in the millinery business.

But a few surprises await Scarlett in London. First, she is met at the airport not by Viv, but by her handsome business manager, Harrison Wentworth. Second, Viv—who has some whims of her own—seems to be missing. No one is too concerned about the unpredictable Viv until one of her posh clients is found dead wearing the cloche hat Viv made for her—and nothing else. Is Scarlett’s cousin in trouble? Or is she in hiding?

Review: Red Velvet Revenge by Jenn McKinlay

Cupcake Bakery Mystery #4

July 2012

It may be summertime, but sales at Fairy Tale Cupcakes are below zero–and owners Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura are willing to try anything to heat things up. So when local legend Slim Hazard offers them the chance to sell cupcakes at the annual Juniper Pass rodeo, they’re determined to rope in a pretty payday!

My thoughts:

Im a big fan of “food” cozy mysteries, and the Cupcake Bakery Mystery series is one of my all time favorites!  With delightful characters and funny dialogue, this is one series that you are sure to enjoy!   In “Red Velvet Revenge”, Angie, Mel and their Staff from their Cupcake Store are invited to go to a Rodeo to be one of the Food Vendors.  While they are there, they meet more of the Family that runs the Rodeo as they sell their Cupcakes and Cake Pops to the local crowd.  When someone is found dead,  Angie and Mel try to help find out who did it while at the same time…keeping busy with their new Cupcake Van.  I thought that Slim and Tammy Hazard were a cute couple and they were very helpful to Angie and Mel when they needed to borrow a kitchen during the Rodeo…

One of my favorite sentences from this book  ~ Mel knew the minute their taste buds had signaled to their brains that their mouths were full of yummy goodness as identical smiles of joy spread across their faces.

My Review:   I absolutely love this series!  I like the authors writing style, I think the characters are well developed and Mel and her friends say such cute things!

Melanie ( Mel ) and Angie have entered the “Challenge to the Chef” contest, and hope to win the large cash prize! ( plus winning the contest will be good publicity for their bakery called “Fairy Tale Cupcakes”.  )    Vic is a good friend of Mel’s and while her and Angie help to solve his murder, they soon learn that they have to be careful!

All of Angie’s family help and support her, including Joe ( who is Mel’s boyfriend )    I liked the addition of Captain Jack ..the kitten that Angie and Mel find – he is so cute!…, ( see photo on book cover )

One of my favorite quotes from this book — “Mel hadnt tidied up since the contest insanity had hit a few weeks ago. She couldnt even imagine what her mother was going to say about her clutter gone wild”.

Also included in this book:  Several cupcake recipes including  Chocolate Chili Cupcakes and Red Velvet Cupcakes ( using Beets )
